companies act information

From January 1st 2007 under the Companies Act all websites and emails must display your company registration number, place of registration and registered office address. More information can be found here:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/12/21/new_web_email_regulation/

The key points in the above article and the information that you must display on your website are:

  • The name, geographic address and email address of the service provider. The name of the organisation with which the customer is contracting must be given. This might differ from the trading name. Any such difference should be explained – e.g. “Company.com is the trading name of Company Trading Limited.”
  • Your email address and registered office address somewhere easily accessible on the site, a ‘contact us’ form alone is not sufficient.
  • Your company registration number should be given and the place of registration stated (e.g. “Company Trading Limited is a company registered in England and Wales with company number 1234567″)
  • If you are a member of a trade or professional association, membership details, including any registration number, should be provided.
  • If you are VAT registered, your VAT number should be stated – even if the website is not being used for e-commerce transactions.
  • All prices on the website must be clear and unambiguous. Also, state whether prices are inclusive of tax and delivery costs.

If you need any help to comply or are uncertain about these new Government regulations, please contact us and we will be glad to help.
